¡Marcha del Primero de Mayo!

Join Seattle CISPES on Sunday, May 1st, for the 2011 May Day Immigrant Rights March!
The march will start at 1PM at St. Mary’s Church (20th Ave. S. & S. Weller St.). Pacific Rim Mining shareholders: Drop the lawsuit and leave El Salvador!

Pacific Rim Mining holds its Annual General Meeting of shareholders on Wednesday, August 25th. Join CISPES in calling for the company to drop its shameful lawsuit against the government of El Salvador.

1) If you can get to Vancouver, B.C., join us outside of the shareholders’ meeting at 2PM on Wednesday the 25th: 888 Dunsmuir St. in downtown Vancouver

2) If you can’t make it in person, call Pacific Rim on Wednesday to demand that the company respect El Salvador’s sovereign decision to deny gold mining permits. Here are the instructions:

SAMPLE CALL SCRIPT:
Hello. My name is _________ and I have been following Pacific Rim’s lawsuit against the government El Salvador. I am calling with a message for the Board of Directors and all the shareholders who are meeting today.

The people of El Salvador have rejected the mine and that decision must be respected. Your lawsuit is a shameful ploy to rob the government of desperately-needed resources for your own financial gain. At today’s meeting, you have a chance to do the right thing. I call on you to make the decision to:
1. Immediately cease all efforts to mine gold in El Salvador and withdraw from the country.
2. Immediately withdraw your lawsuit against the government of El Salvador.”

27 de Mayo: Día internacional de acción en contra de la minería y el libre comercio en El Salvador

Join Seattle CISPES on May 27th at 4:00 p.m. to protest Canadian mining company Pacific Rim’s lawsuit against El Salvador… and to call on Congress to reform our trade policy, which has allowed this lawsuit to exist in the first place.Únanse con Seattle CISPES el 27 de Mayo a las 4:00 p.m. para protestar la demanda legal presentada por la compañía minera canadiense Pacific Rim en contra del estado Salvadoreño. Y también para exigir que el Congreso Estadounidense reforme las políticas del libre comercio, las cuales permiten este tipo de demanda en el primer lugar.
